The Eurasian Teal is a tiny dabbling duck, the smallest duck species in the Northern Hemisphere, with males displaying a distinctive chestnut head and creamy breast in breeding season. Both sexes are cryptically colored overall, making them difficult to spot in shallow wetlands and marshes, though their fast, agile flight and high-pitched whistles often give them away.
