What Bosk does, and what is still coming

Bosk is a nature app and field guide that helps you discover the living world around you, connect with the people and places that share it, and act to look after it.

Each feature below is marked Available Now, In Development or Planned, so you know what you can use today and what is still ahead. Your Wild List is your personal list of every species you have met.

Discover: Know What You Are Looking At

Identify what you find, read up on it and keep a record of every species you meet.

Photo Identification (Available Now)

Take or upload a photo and Bosk suggests the species, with how sure it is. You confirm before anything is saved. It is an early feature, so some suggestions will be wrong.

Field Guide (Available Now)

Species profiles for animals, plants and fungi worldwide, grouped the way naturalists group them, with habitat, behaviour, season and range.

Wild List (Available Now)

Your personal list of every species you have met, in the order you first saw them, with rarity tags and what to look for nearby.

Walks (Available Now)

Record a walk with GPS and see your route, the species you met on the way and a simple score for the outing.

Bird Sound Identification (In Development)

Record a bird call and Bosk will suggest the species, and you confirm before anything is saved.

Habitat And Ecosystem Guides (Available Now)

Seven habitat guides and 25 ecosystem guides, plus a list of what is in season this month by region. All open to read without an account.

Watchlist And Species Alerts (Available Now)

Follow the species you care about and choose when to be told about sightings near you. Rare-species alerts are part of Pro.

Sightings With Notes And Places (Available Now)

Every sighting is dated and placed, with your field notes and the conditions on the day. Recordings stay private to you.

Calendar And Badges (Available Now)

See your year at a glance and earn badges for the habitats, regions and trails you explore.

Night Sky (Available Now)

Tonight's moon, the planets that are up, meteor showers and a viewer that points at the sky.

Export Your Data (Available Now)

Download your sightings as CSV any time, and your walks as GPX. Your data is yours.

Nature Report (Available Now)

A printable report of your sightings, Wild List and notes (part of Pro).

Native iOS And Android Apps (In Development)

Bosk runs in your browser and can be added to your home screen. Native apps are being built and are not in the app stores yet.

Offline Field Guide Sets (Planned)

Downloadable sets, such as a region's woodland species with an offline map, for use out of signal. Not started.

German Interface (Planned)

The app is in English today. A German interface is planned.

Connect: Nature Is Better With Other People

See what is around you on a map, follow friends and find places and experiences nearby.

Map Of Life (Available Now)

Photo pins for your sightings, your friends and the community, next to parks, green spaces and water bodies, with filters for group, rarity and time.

Friends And Community Sightings (Available Now)

Add friends, see what they found this week and the species you have in common, and browse community sightings. You choose what you share.

Marketplace (In Development)

Hosted nature experiences, growing spaces, seed and plant swaps and community events. Built, but closed to members until it is ready.

Games (Available Now)

Daily photo and sound quizzes and a monthly bingo.

Nature Stories (In Development)

Short, moderated stories from members. Shown once enough have been approved.

Tools For Schools And Parks (Planned)

Ways for schools, parks departments and nature groups to use Bosk together. We are open to partners now.

Act: Small Things That Help

What you see adds up. Take simple steps to look after the places you know.

Weekly Action (Available Now)

One small thing you can do for nature each week, from a short list for everyone. No garden or kit needed.

Adopt A Patch (Available Now)

Keep a private place you revisit through the seasons, with dated visits, and share it with a few friends if you like.

Share Your Sightings With Science (Available Now)

Download your own original sightings in the format biodiversity databases use (Darwin Core), with rare species generalised by default. Bosk sends nothing on your behalf.

Field Reports (Available Now)

Note an invasive species, a hazard, pollution or injured wildlife. Reports are saved for the Bosk team to review. They are not forwarded to any authority.

Public Impact Dashboard (Planned)

A public view of what the community has recorded, once there is enough activity to show.

Beta questions

What happens after the beta?

Your account stays active and nothing is deleted or reset. Everything you add during the beta, like sightings, walks, photos and your Wild List, stays yours. The free plan stays free, with the same 20 identifications a month, and Pro and Family plans, including any you upgrade to during the beta, continue as normal. If you subscribe during the beta, your price stays the same for as long as you keep your plan.

Can I get more identifications?

Yes. Send a friend your personal invite link from Community. When they save their first species, you each get 7 days of Pro, which lifts the monthly limit. You can earn this up to 10 times. On the web you can also buy one-off packs of extra identifications that never expire.

What can I use it on?

Any modern browser on your phone or computer, and you can add it to your home screen. Native iOS and Android apps are in the works.

Can other people hear my recordings?

No. Sound recordings can pick up voices and conversations, so they are always private. Bosk never shows or plays your recordings to anyone else, whatever your sharing settings are. Others can see the species and the sighting details you share, never the audio.
